A love story
Our Story
We have been friends for more than 10 years now, dating for almost 7 by the time of our wedding. Here are some snippets of our story so far!
How we met
We met back in 2016 through All Souls Church and in the Overseas Christian Fellowship (OCF). We got to know each other better by serving Milo together at All Souls Church, being a part of the committee at OCF, and preparing food for student camps. Ben remembers Alyson always clearing up after events. Alyson thought that Ben was funny. We met nearly weekly for some years in big friend groups.
A Shift
Alyson planned a trip to Dover for our OCF group in the summer of 2019. It was there that Alyson learned she really enjoyed Ben’s company and appreciated his unfazed nature (you can ask us about the ‘Dover sea incident’). Through many conversations, our feelings for each other grew, and we began to pray about pursuing a relationship.
Becoming more than friends
We started dating in early 2020, just before the world went into lockdown. We started our long distance relationship whilst living just 10 minutes away from one another, bonding over Netflix Party (K-dramas, anime), online boardgames, and occasionally, long chats around our values and life directions. Alyson then returned to KL for a year to pursue her research, while Ben remained in London for work. We resumed our long-distance relationship over daily (or nightly) calls.
Adventures together
Alyson returned to London after another year apart. We enjoyed 3 wonderful years of great trips with our favourite people, experiencing new things together, and living life to the fullest! Along the way, we were also learning what it meant to journey through life’s hills and valleys together, as we navigated personal losses and celebrated milestones. We came to appreciate the gifts of steadfast support and sharing in each other's joys.
The proposal
On 15th June 2025, after much persuasion, Alyson agreed to go on a picnic for her birthday at the beautiful Kyoto Gardens in London. Alyson totally saw it coming, but said yes anyway :D
